Carp Road Landfill
Right after the 2006 selection, the Ottawa citizen ran an article on the ward 5 election. In that article, the winner and current incumbent stated ‘the need to close the Carp Road Land fill by 2010”
Here we are again in 2010 and what’s one of the city hot issues - you guessed it - IC&I waste at Carp Road.
This is not to say our fine group of councillors did nothing. They did totally ignore the notification Waste Management gave the city in the spring of 2007 about the landfill reaching capacity and using that notification to find another alternative location.
In 2010, there was much churn in the media about the revised Terms of Reference. I wrote several items on the website and blog with trace backs to articles within the media. The key one you may wish to review is here.
I am against the landfill but given how the current council has dithered, I feel we are caught between the proverbial rock and hard place and will have to accept the expansion. The current council have had 3 years to initiate a work around, The next council must get on the Carp Landfill replacement file with the province before the end of the year, even if it is just to get the dialog initiated.
